Witkoppen Health and Welfare Centre has a registered pharmacy on-site. There are three full-time pharmacists, as well as post basic pharmacist assistants and basic pharmacist assistants. In addition, all of our pharmacists are registered with the Pharmacy Council as tutors and are training additional pharmacist assistants who receive practical training and mentoring on-site. This is accomplished due to an excellent relationship with the Department of Health and is funded by USAID, through Right to Care.
The pharmacy is well equipped with the drugs listed on the Department of Health Essential Drug List, including antiretroviral treatment (ART).
Most drugs are received from Auckland Park Pharmacy as part of our subsidy from the Department of Health. Witkoppen Health and Welfare Centre has the capacity to purchase drugs from private wholesalers if the Auckland Park Pharmacy is out of stock of any standard stock items, if we have funding available.
Patients are not charged for any medications that they receive.
